The upcoming sixth season of Drop Dead Diva will be its last .

Drop Dead Diva was originally cancelled after its fourth season, when Lifetime failed to reach a deal with Sony Pictures Television.  A month and a half later, Lifetime renewed the show for a fifth season.

Unsurprisingly, at least to me, the show came back pretty strong, staying within its season four average for the first part of its season.  When Diva aired against regular season competition for its second half of the season, the series fell to new lows.  Now with its sixth season scheduled to debut in a little over a month from now, Lifetime is officially ending the series.

The news of the final season does not come as much surprise, as Lifetime is taking a new direction with programming.  The network ended Army Wives last season, and cancelled The Client List.  The new crop of shows include Devious Maids and Witches of East End, which will both return for a second season sometime in 2014.

The final season of Drop Dead Diva kicks off March 29th, at 9/8c.

Here is the five season track in total viewers:
Season 1 - 2.89 million
Season 2 - 2.59 million
Season 3 - 2.26 million
Season 4 - 2.30 million
Season 5 - 1.99 million
