Color me surprised.  After 52 episodes airing in four seasons, Lifetime has quietly cancelled comedic drama Drop Dead Diva.

The ratings for the series were never awful, but they were never great either.  With a small bump in season four, I was expecting a renewal, especially with the lack of original programming on the network.

In total viewers, here is the four year track:
Season 1 - 2.89 million (9/13 episodes)
Season 2 - 2.59 million (down ~10%)
Season 3 - 2.26 million (down 13%)
Season 4 - 2.30 million (up 2%)

Drop Dead Diva ended its four season run on September 9, 2012 with 2.76 million viewers and a 0.9 demographic - it's highest viewership since the season three premiere.

While I never watched the show, I thought Lifetime would have stuck with the show for at least one more season and then wrapped up all the storylines.
