The start of March Madness means its time for another Television Tournament .
Welcome to the third television tournament! I believe this one will be the most exciting yet as we breakdown one of televisions most iconic nights: Thursdays on NBC. Known as "Must See TV" for a number of years, it featured some of the biggest hits to grace the television screen: Friends, Frasier, Cheers, and The Cosby Show. NBC eventually reinvented the night as "Comedy Night Done Right" and suffered huge loses. Shows that aired during this time frame are The Office, My Name is Earl, 30 Rock, and Scrubs.
There have been a whopping 60 comedies that have aired as a part of the Thursday night comedy lineup since 1982. A few of them have been huge hits (Cheers, Frasier, Friends) but a few have also quickly bombed (Four Kings, Leap of Faith, The Paul Resier Show). Which are your favorites? Take the time to vote and advance your favorites to round two. It'll be a fierce battle for a lot of the shows, but one will be strong enough to be named "The Best Must See TV Comedy of All Time."
A number of shows that aired as part of Must See TV/ Comedy Night Done Right were later moved to other nights (Whitney, for example), but are still included in the tournament. If a comedy started on another night and then moved to Thursdays (Up All Night, for example), it is also still included.
Due to only 60 shows being part of the lineup, all the number one seeds were given a bye for the first round. They will enter the competition when round two begins.
While dramas are/were an essential part of the Must See TV era, they have been excluded as the tournament is focusing solely on comedies. Reality and newsmagazine series have been excluded from the tournament for the same reason.

Round one voting ended on March 17, 2013 at 11:59:59pm. The survey closed with 39 votes and the totals were published on the page entitled NBC Tournament: Round Two. The survey is being left open for anyone who wishes to look, but any votes cast after this point are not included in the overall totals. If you see a total number response with anything other than 39, it means someone voted after the survey closed. Thanks for your understanding on the matter! - RJ
